Fake Truths

This ceramic and performance art piece was intended to showcase concepts of ephemerality and performance within art practice. Samah was charged with creating ceramic pieces that would be used in a performance art piece. In this project, a ceramic speaker that symbolizes the amplification of people’s voices to authority. Speakers have a prominent place in protests in the United States and worldwide. Therefore, the performance portion of this art piece capitalizes on the symbolic value of speakers. The audience is welcomed to offer up ‘fake truths’ of lies about Trump – who many have seen as spearheading the fake news defense. The art piece is, therefore, a commentary on the blurred line between what is true and what is false in Trump’s America.
